Dear Fairways Homeowner,
Please note that we love our community, the HOA, and fellow residents regardless the outcome of this protest campaign! We are trying to make things right that we believe were executed incorrectly.
I request you to support your fellow Fairways residents to raise our voice against the recent Fairways additional $636 yearly ground service assessment because it is non-democratic, unnecessary, double the price that Toll quoted a few years ago, and with the existing contractor whose poor services are killing the lawns creating an opportunity for them to fix the lawn at your cost – as per a resolution that HOA passed a couple of years ago.
Our club dues and HOA assessments are not doubling at the rate this service doubled. And it’ll double again in a few years since this specialized service is not applicable to all community homes. This new assessment will eliminate diversity and creativity of home owners and make all front yards look like a cookie cutter – unless you spend extra money in addition to your yearly assessment.
Instead of putting efforts increasing BCC home prices and negotiating this service at no cost with other contractor at contract renewal, we are busy in helping reducing landscaping bill for the idea-submitting couple-of-home-owners by $374 / year. These home-owners were previously spending $1000 a year and they wanted to save themselves some money. The HOA easily agreed and hastily setup a team that included none of the Fairways residents who were against the idea. We can get you contractors who can maintain your lawn at a cheaper price than the current assessment.
50% + 2 more homeowners approved. We don’t know if they were forced or bullied. But volunteer team used a completely different voting system. But they added $636 (around $786 with taxes) yearly to almost 49 % homeowners who said no. Those who voted ‘yes’ can afford this increase, but with 40% inflation this may not work for those who voted no. Also, those who voted know they enjoy maintaining their yard because it gives them relief from stress and depression. It also helps them stay active and creative. They also get this service at a fair price that is much less than the current assessment.
As a community, do we really want to punish home owners for earning less or hardly making their ends meet because a couple of residents want to save $376 per year and push their burden/wish to everyone else. Do we really want to snatch the freedom of maintaining the lawn from those who love maintaining it. If you love watching movie or you use a relaxation method, what would you feel if someone snatches it. Let’s support each other, and not put others in trouble.
Due to the skyrocketing HOA fees and some horrible real estate agents, houses at Belmont go for a cheaper price compare to other communities. For some home owners HOA fees and club dues are around 30% of their mortgage. Who would want to spend 30% on HOA fees? Can community provide opportunities to the home owners to earn extra $736 per year to support this? A caring community would not force residents to earn extra $736 / year.
I request you again to support us and raise your concerns to avoid adding additional recurring assessments. Once you are stuck with a fee, you’ll open the door for future new fees because a couple of people can put ideas for a vote. And those new ideas can be like: seal drive way, exterior painting, doors painting, window change, pest / mosquito / termite control, house power wash, house window cleaning, roof replacement, gas, electric, phone services, security etc.
Please refuse it first time and every time!
We need your support. Here are the various ways.
