The HOA recently approved a $146,000 yearly recurring assessment to Fairways villages. The HOA says that they followed a right process to reach and approve the assessment. The HOA could have considered a democratic approach, however the HOA did not realize the gravity of the situation and used a biased/non-democratic approach for getting a desired outcome. We want to bring these flaws to HOA’s attention and ask the HOA to redo the whole process involving both the sides. Here are the concerns:

  • The HOA chose a team that included only one resident volunteer who might have proposed this change. This team was one-sided and missed diversity and equality.
  • Adding an additional 18% monthly assessment is a highly important issue and requires extra communication. The idea itself must have been gone through the residents before putting this for voting.
  • The HOA trusted just 3 homeowners’ suggestion for the fate of 200+ homeowners. That is less than 1.5% of total homeowners.
  • Toll quoted for the same service a few years ago and that assessment was $300 per year. Currently it is $636 a year. The HOA did not question the price difference. Today, the homeowners are getting the service at a better price than the assessed amount.
  • A person getting the signatures of people was a bully and declared that regardless of people’s vote, it’ll go through. You can predict the outcome of a voting only if the system is rigged.
  • Given that person’s prediction, we can not trust that a fair voting took place.
  • We are here to amicably resolve this issue with the HOA.

We ask the HOA to reconsider and throw this assessment out or redo this with proper representation from both the sides.
